From Foundation to Framework: What Being a Makeup Artist Taught Me About Building Brands
I began my career in front of the camera, working in film and TV — drawn to the magic of storytelling and the power of visual connection.
Over the years, I appeared in over 30 music videos (including Drake and Snoop Dogg) and even played an Unfriendly Black Hottie in Mean Girls. It was a fast-paced, high-energy world — but I found myself increasingly curious about what was happening behind the camera.
That curiosity led me to beauty. I became a professional makeup artist, working on editorial shoots, music videos, and film sets — helping artists and celebrities show up with confidence and intention. My client list included names like Donald Trump, Trey Songz, and Talib Kweli.
At the time, I didn’t realize I was learning the foundations of personal branding — long before I ever called it that.
Presence, Confidence, and Storytelling — The Heart of Creative Brand Strategy
Makeup isn’t just technique — it’s transformation. And that transformation is branding at its core.
Again and again, I saw how visual storytelling could shape perception.
A slight shift in tone, colour, or styling could completely change the mood of a shoot.
The most impactful work didn’t come from how someone looked — it came from how they felt.
And when that energy translated on camera?
That’s when people truly connected.
That emotional impact — the ability to make someone feel something — is exactly what branding is all about.
From Beauty to Brand Strategy — A Natural Evolution
As my work evolved, I transitioned into content creation, marketing, and brand consulting — blending creativity with strategy in a whole new way. What started as helping clients share their work online evolved into shaping their message, designing visuals, and creating intentional brand identities.
It was the perfect intersection of everything I loved.
Storytelling
Visual connection
Emotional resonance
Branding became the bridge between creativity and connection — and I was all in.
Today, I help entrepreneurs and creatives build personal brands that feel aligned and magnetic — the kind that resonate deeply and drive real results.
What I Bring Into Every Brand I Build Today
Now, I work with small businesses and personal brands — especially women-led — who are ready to elevate how they show up online.
I partner with life coaches, real estate professionals, creatives, and founders — and the goal is always the same:
To build a brand that feels like you and speaks directly to them.
Whether we’re:
Designing a visual identity
Building content strategy
Producing scroll-stopping brand videos
I bring:
A strategic brain
A creative eye
And a heart-led approach that puts connection first
Because the most powerful brands don’t just look good — they feel authentic.
The Takeaway: How to Build a Personal Brand with Heart and Strategy
Every part of what I do today — from brand strategy to video production — was built on the foundation of presence, storytelling, and emotional connection.
Whether I was behind the makeup chair or behind a brand strategy, my work has always been about helping people feel seen for who they truly are.
If you're a coach, creative, or entrepreneur who wants to build a personal brand that feels aligned, intentional, and unforgettable — I’d love to help you bring that vision to life.
Let’s build a brand that’s not just beautiful — but honest, clear, and truly you.
